Flower Mountain | New Brand Arrival

The sneaker world and that of heritage menswear have an interesting history. The two, seemingly like long estranged siblings are similar in many ways, but also with their own distinct character. One is fast-paced and always concerned with what is coming next – while the other is concerned with a slower more purposeful approach, exploring what is timeless. Every now and then though, a brand comes along that manages to bridge a gap between the two, and it is here where new and exciting ideas can be explored.

Flower Mountain History
It all began from a chance meeting between Mr. Keisuke Ota, a self-taught shoe designer from Japan and Mr. Yang Chao of China, head designer for important Chinese and international brands who got talking and really hit it off. Not only because of their similar field of expertise but they also found out that they had a shared love of mountain trekking, nature and music– a common thread that can be seen weaved throughout the Flower Mountain brand.

Inspired by their mutual interests, they decided to take a trip to the Mount Fuji Fuji Rock Festival, where the initial seed for Flower Mountain was planted and so both men, along with Federica Wang, founded The Dandelion Mountaineering Association and later Breath Design co. Ltd Tokyo which built the foundations for Flower Mountain footwear to be born. With their combined expertise, the two founders wanted to create a footwear brand that combined superior materials and craftsmanship with a functional, yet appealing footwear design. The result is something truly unique. The brand uses materials that are not often found used in footwear such as Kurashiri hanpu, a Japanese fabric that originates from the town of Kurashiki, Japan and has been in use since the 1800’s. The fabric is a natural cotton canvas that is expertly woven using intertwined cotton yarns.

All Flower Mountain shoes are lined with natural leather and an cork insole for improved comfort and breathability while the use of such materials suggests the intention that the shoes are built to last – further suggested by the brands use of AGION – a natural mineral compound used on the insole that prevents the formation of mould and bacteria extending the lifespan of your shoes and keeping your shoes and your feet healthy. Each shoe is designed to be lightweight and functional with an extra-grippy outsole ideal for trekking or getting around the city with ease and comfort. Natural colour palettes prevail throughout the collections, taking inspiration from the natural world and changing of the seasons. We’re really excited to announce that Flower Mountain will be available at Stuarts London very soon, so keep an eye out for updates and on our latest arrivals and don’t miss out on a chance to check out this exciting new footwear brand!
