Behind The Label

Karhu, a brand deeply rooted in Track and Field, was established in 1916. Initially known for producing javelins, skis, and discuses, Karhu gained prominence by supplying running spikes for the 1920 Olympics, solidifying its status as Finland's official equipment provider. During World War II, Karhu supported the Finnish war effort by manufacturing military supplies and selling its 3-stripes trademark to Adidas for two bottles of whisky and 1,600 euros.

In the 1960s, Karhu introduced its iconic M-symbol, derived from the Finnish word "Mestari," meaning "champion." The label expanded its product line with the introduction of the Trampas trainer, catering to both athletic and casual wear. Innovating further, Karhu pioneered the patented "Air Cushion" midsole system in the 1970s, enhancing footwear performance. Collaborating with the University of JyvŠskylŠ led to the development of "Fulcrum" technology, designed to optimize energy transfer and support.

Karhu continues to evolve, blending heritage with innovation to create high-performance footwear that meets the demands of athletes worldwide.
