Schott NYC, or Schott Bros as it is also referred to, is a clothing company originating from New York City. The company started out in 1913 by brothers Irving and Jack. Schott NYC was the very first label to ever put a zipper on a jacket, with this they created the classic Perfecto motorcycle jacket.
They also created clothing for the US Military during World War II and for the American law enforcement. Still owned by the Schott family, this designer label still manufactures much of their clothing in the United States.
The brand’s famous jackets were made out of horsehide, included a belted front as well as a D-pocket, flap change pocket, zippered sleeve cuffs and shoulder epaulettes. This classic motorcycle jacket was a double rider’s jacket design which meant that one part of the front zipper was located a couple of inches in. When zipped up this created a seal where no air would pass through when riding a motorcycle.
Marlon Brando wore a Schott 618 jacket in the movie The Wild One in 1953, because the film was the first outlaw biker movie at the time, the black motorcycle jacket became synonymous with a bad attitude and was banned from many American schools during the 1950s. Other famous designs from the brand are the Schott Naval Peacoat and the Schott leather flight jacket. Schott Bros are a company that has maintained a loyal focus to their heritage and at Stuarts London we are pleased to feature their collection of designs.
