One of New Balance's most iconic silhouettes ever made, the 574, returns this summer with two seasonal updates perfect for the warmer season. Dubbed 'Vintage Indigo' & 'Concrete', these 574's arrive in two hairy suede spins on colours core to New Balance.
New Balance 574 - A Brief History
Debuting in 1988, the 574 was crafted as a dependable shoe, designed for versatility rather than ground-breaking technology or luxurious materials. Its straightforward, humble adaptability is precisely what propelled the 574 to legendary status. Featuring a hybrid road/trail design and a broader fit compared to its narrower, race-oriented predecessors, the 574 delivered a distinctive blend of simplicity, durability, and comfort. This unique mix made it an essential wardrobe staple worldwide.

For the first 15 years of its existence, the 574 saw minimal changes. Its successful formula and strong sales meant there was no need for major alterations. While the New Balance team over in the US remained dedicated to the core athletic market, other customers in regions like here in the UK began viewing the brand differently, igniting a renewed interest that ultimately re-entered the 574 into the brands core collection each season.
The uppers are crafted from a mix of lightweight hairy suede & mesh panels, finished with an off white flat lacing system. Under foot the black rubber sole is engrained with white speckled detailing with EVA foam cushioning surrounding the heal & midsole.

These latest updates also see the re-introduction of the 'ENCAPS' midsole. ENCAP integrates plush cushioning with a firm midsole rim, while the Rollbar stabilizes the heel by preventing excessive movement. Together, these technologies counteract the foot's natural tendency to roll inward, ensuring it remains straight & promoting better walking form.
