Keep Your Clarks Wallabees Looking Sharp: A Guide to Protection

Clarks Wallabees have been a staple amongst stylish gentlemen for years. Their easy-to-pair, comfortable and timeless style has secured their position in the shoe closet of the style elite since they were released in 1961.

Like most everyday footwear options, you might find they need protection to ensure they don't fall victim to the stresses of the streets. The suede construction of the Clarks Wallabees means they can be subject to staining and splash marks from the rain, scuffs from the pavement and more.

This is where we come in. We have created a step-by-step guide to help protect your Wallabees to keep them in their rightful glory. Keep reading and watch the guide on protecting Clarks Wallabees with Stuarts London. We also have a step-by-step guide if you prefer to take it slowly.

Step 1 - Unlace the shoes

We're going to start by unlacing the Wallabees, this will allow us to cover all areas of the shoes evenly. Place them to one side for now.

Step 2 - Dry brush the uppers of the shoe with a suede brush

Take your suede brush and rub the surface area up and down. This will help to re-nap the suede, which will help avoid any dryness applying to the suede and help with the distribution of the repellent to be even across the shoe's surface.

Step 3 - Apply a stain and water-repellent spray

Before applying the spray, give the bottle a shake. Make sure you are 6-8 inches away from the shoes before applying the spray to the shoe's surface. Cover the shoes in a nice, even mist, and recover any areas you may have missed.

Step 4 - Wipe the sole of the shoe with a microfibre cloth

The soles of Clarks Wallabees are crafted with a non-absorbent material, so take a microfibre cloth and rub the sole and surrounding bottom of the shoe. This will help prevent any watermarks from forming on the shoes.

Step 5 - Leave for 24 hours

Leave your Clarks Wallabees for at least 24 hours before wearing them. Once the coating has formed, you should have 4-6 weeks of protection. You can then add the laces back to the shoes.

Can you put Wallabees in the washing machine?

No, you can't put Clarks Wallabees in the washing machine. The material used to create the shoes is suede, which, if subjected to water, can become damaged, and the fibres of the shoes could be pushed beyond repair, ultimately ruining your beloved Wallabees.

Are Clarks Wallabees waterproof?

Some Clarks Wallabees now have GORE-TEX technology to help protect them from the elements, such as rain and puddles. However, it must be noted that not all Clarks Wallabees come with this technology built-in. Please check the product description for any mention of GORE-TEX before assuming you are safe to splash about in your Wallabees.
