Behind The Label

Founded in 1999 by design engineer Greig Brebner in Auckland, New Zealand, Blunt Umbrellas was born from a mission to re-engineer a product that had remained fundamentally flawed for centuries. Frustrated by the "planned obsolescence" of traditional umbrellas that collapse and break in high winds, Brebner utilised his background in precision engineering to develop the patented Blunt Radial Tensioning System (RTS). This revolutionary design replaces sharp, dangerous points with rounded "Blunt Tips" that act as miniature shock absorbers, distributing aerodynamic force evenly across the fabric canopy to create a taut, wind-resistant shield. Every Blunt is tested in extreme conditions—including Category 1 hurricane wind tunnels—to ensure it remains the most durable, sustainable, and high-performance weather protection on the market. Today, the brand is a global design icon, blending architectural aesthetics with a "repair, don’t replace" philosophy that challenges the throwaway culture of modern accessories.
