Behind The Label

Big John Denim, founded in 1940 by Kotaro Osaki in Kojima, Japan, began as a small workwear and uniform maker. By the 1960s, it was importing and adapting American jeans, and in 1965 produced Japan’s first domestically made jeans. Officially launching the Big John brand in 1967, the company pioneered Japanese denim innovations, including selvedge and one-wash jeans, earning a reputation as the “godfather of Japanese denim.” Today, Big John remains a respected heritage brand, blending traditional craftsmanship with modern style.
