Stepney Workers Club returns this season to bring back classic elements from their archives. Named the 'Amiel S-Strike', it's S.W.C's first ever running silhouette and takes cues from a golden era of 90s running shoe design. A layered mix of traditional and technical sneaker materials coupled with a lightweight multi-part composite sole unit and supportive padding make it the ultimate everyday wear.
Stepney Workers Club is a London brand, co-founded by Roger Pereira & Simon See in 2018 and inspired by the inclusive culture of traditional workers sports clubs. The brand motto 'Freedom Of Sport, Freedom Of Thought' paired with the handshake symbol represent the values, free-thinking and unity that are associated with these clubs. The labels unisex footwear styles are unique rethinks of timeless and genre-less classics that have been adopted by varying sub-cultures over the past decades.
Stepney's approach has always been to produce innovative styles with a purpose, not for the sake of doing so & not appealing to the trends that disappear just as they arrive. When S.W.C. launches a new model, it is their ideal version of a particular silhouette that they feel has not yet been explored. It must have a reason to exist, paired with a 'potential for longevity void of time constraint'.
To celebrate the Amiel's release correctly, S.W.C. pieced together a campaign titled -Think On Your Feet' using renowned fashion photographer James Rees to bring Stepneys concept to life. The vision was inspired by the concept of -inner-directed running' - as delivered via Valerie Andrews' 1978 book -The Psychic Power of Running'. A cultural awakening of-sorts - tuning-out of 'external goals and thoughts of competitiveness in running'. The campaign pairs this inspiration with the adoption of running shoe silhouettes as a staple in your everyday footwear rotation, whether that is casually or formally.
Underfoot the Amiel, the lightweight cushioned sole comprises of three parts; a low- density, reactive EVA midsole, a cleated runner -island' outsole and a dose of 'S-Strike' TPU heel support at the heel. The uppers host a breathable lightweight technical mesh, plush tongue and collar padding for comfort and support. Available in four colourways; three suede mix and one leather mix, the wearable colour palettes and combinations pay homage to 90s lifestyle running shoes.
