Arguably one of the most distinctive British smocks ever created, the Belstaff Dalesman Smock embodies classic simplicity with subtle nuances. First debuting in the 1950s, the Dalesman was originally crafted as an outerwear piece for activities such as walking, climbing, mountaineering, and other outdoor adventures. Now with Belstaff's 100 year anniversary, the Dalesman makes a return.
Made in England, the smock was originally fashioned from a grey-coloured cotton and fully lined with a yellow twill, a distinguishing trait of the 'Dalesman'. Positioned on the chest was a generous pocket, its flap secured with buttons. Beneath the flap lay a 'Lightning' branded zipper, marked with an 'L' on the puller.
Two additional pockets adorned the skirt, fastened with buttons. A hood was also included, its lower portion fastened with another Lightning branded zipper. Inside the smock, a strap could be fastened between the wearer's legs during adverse weather conditions - reflecting the environments the Dalesman was always designed for.
The fan favourite Dalesman now makes it's long awaited return as part of the Belstaff's 100 year anniversary collection, arriving in two new seasonal colourways dubbed Aloe/Limestone & Cloud Grey/Yellow Oxide. These latest iterations arrive crafted from a compact, high-twist cotton to achieve a unique 'dry-hand feel' - evoking the rugged nostalgia of vintage hiking equipment, tents, and groundsheets.
Featuring a centre front zip closure and a built-in hood with adjustable pullers, the Dalesman pays homage to it's predecessor by ensuring versatile protection against the elements. Its internal drawstring allows for customizable waist adjustment, while a hem tab with button-fastening adds a touch of functionality and style. Boasting ample storage space, it sports a large centre front patch pocket with button flap and zip fastening, complemented by two hip patch pockets secured with button-fastening closures.
100 Years Of Belstaff
With 2024 marking the first centennial milestone for Belstaff, this seasons collection brings a commemoration of their 100-year milestone, tracing the significant events in their organizational journey and in the lives of their community members. The landmark brings a return to archive pieces like the Dalesman alongside a capsule of Centenary logo pieces to celebrate the 100th birthday of the iconic Phoenix logo.
