The Church 5-eye Monkey Boot is one of the most recognisable styles in the Dr. Martens library, dating back to the 70s. This season the Church Monkey Boot returns from the archives with a new spin courtesy of & in collaboration with renowned English & Leeds based tannery Charles F Stead.
Charles F.Stead - A Brief History
Charles F Stead are a historic family business that specialises in producing beautiful suede leathers. With their roots tracing back to the late 1800s, Charles originally learnt his craft as an apprentice to Thomas Wright & Co. Ltd, before deciding to set up a business of his own, in a small premise on St. Anne's Street, near Leeds city centre. The tannery continue to regard suede manufacture to be a craft, staying true to the artisanal skills, techniques, and know-how that others have forgotten, taking the time to work their suede & leathers in the traditional manner.
These updated iterations of the Church Monkey Boots are crafted from tough Buckingham leather from C. F. Stead and is unlined at the ankle for a softer feel and vintage look. The boot has tonal upper stitching, gunmetal eyelets, and tonal laces, as well as a C. F. Stead swing tag. The smoky DMS sole features modest black welt stitching instead of the brands traditional yellow, but the boot still sports their signature black and yellow heel loop.
The uppers of the boots are cut from Full Grain Tumbled Leather with accentuated natural grain & character. These uppers & sole are married together with heat-seal Goodyear-welted lines that are reinforced with the brands distinctive welt stitch, with the two-tone PVC sole characterised with DM's renowned grooving and unique tread.
Earlier this season Timberland also partnered with the English and Leeds-based tannery Charles F Stead to put a spin on their iconic 3-eye lug, draped in fully waterproof deep indigo suede uppers, gold rivet detailing & finished with a swing hangtag featuring the tanneries original logo from the 1920s.
