Behind The Label

Founded in 1905 by Charles Beckman in Red Wing, Minnesota, Red Wing Shoes is the definitive architect of American industrial footwear. Originally established to provide durable boots for the rigorous demands of mining, logging, and farming, the brand became a primary supplier for the U.S. Military during both World Wars, cementing its reputation for "indestructible" construction. The label’s legacy is anchored in its ownership of the S.B. Foot Tanning Co., allowing Red Wing to maintain total control over the quality of its heavyweight, oil-tanned leathers, which are specifically engineered to resist water, stains, and perspiration.

The brand is defined by its two most iconic silhouettes: the 875 Mock Toe, introduced in 1952 with its signature white Traction Tred sole, and the Iron Ranger, a rugged cap-toe boot originally designed for the iron miners of the Mesabi Range. Every pair of Red Wing Heritage boots is still handcrafted in the USA using a traditional Goodyear Welt, a construction method that allows the boots to be resoled indefinitely, transforming them from a mere purchase into a lifelong companion. Today, Red Wing remains a global symbol of blue-collar authenticity, bridging the gap between historical workwear utility and the modern "slow fashion" movement through its commitment to "Made in America" excellence.
