Haeckels - A Brief History
Founded in 2012 by Dom Bridges, a dedicated beach warden and lover of coastal landscapes, Haeckels emerged from a dissatisfaction with the mass-production ethos prevalent in the skincare industry. Dom's vision was to craft simple, artisanal products that celebrated the natural ingredients found along Margate's shores, with the aim of promoting the region's tradition of healthy coastal living.
In the early days, Dom would scour the Margate coastline for seaweed and local botanicals, bringing them back to his family kitchen for experimentation. However, as the kitchen began to smell more like a skincare laboratory, Dom's wife Jo urged him to establish a proper lab. Heeding her advice, Dom secured a space on Cliff Terrace in 2013, where he continued to develop new product formulas and expand the range.
Despite its growth, Haeckels remains deeply rooted in the local community, actively engaging in beach clean-ups and participating in marine conservation efforts. As the company evolves in the years to come, its commitment to craftsmanship will remain steadfast, with a focus on educating customers about the natural treasures abundant in Margate's coastal environment.
Haeckels Candles
Each & every Haeckels candle is uniquely fragranced with an induvial inspiration from an element of different coastlines around the globe. For example, the Reculver Candle is inspired by the Reculver sea defences; blackberries, sea lavender and cedar whilst the Pegwell Candle pays homage to the wild fennel, grasses and salts found in Pegwell Bay - a shallow inlet in the English Channel.
Haeckels Skincare

The unique formula of the shampoo combines the benefits of kelp extracts and panthenol to nourish and cleanse the hair, while the addition of Broccoli seed oil delivers essential fatty acids, ensuring your hair feels fresh. Pumpkin seed oil in the conditioner then provides your hair with a multitude of essential fatty acids to leave your hair clean and refreshed.
