Behind The Label

Founded in 1940 by Kotaro Ozaki in Kojima, Okayama, Big John is the undisputed "godfather" of Japanese denim. Originally a sewing factory for uniforms and workwear, the brand made history in 1965 by producing the first ever pair of "made in Japan" jeans using imported American fabric. By 1973, Big John pushed the industry further by developing "KD-8," the first denim fabric entirely woven and dyed in Japan, effectively launching the global reputation of Okayama as the world's denim capital. Today, the label remains a pioneer of the "Quality Comes First" philosophy, blending its rich heritage of vintage Americana with continuous innovation in natural indigo dyes, sustainable fibers like "Yoshidenim" reed-blends, and artisanal selvedge techniques that set the gold standard for authentic Japanese craftsmanship.
