Do VEJA shoes fit true to size?

VEJA use European sizing for their shoes. If you don’t know your European size, don’t worry as we’ve already done the hard work for you and converted them into standard UK sizing. Just select your usual size. In terms of fit, VEJA shoes generally fit true to size. With the exception of the V10 which we recommend that you take a full size down. So if you are usually a UK 8, get a UK 7. If you are between sizes we advise that you size down half a size so if you were a UK 9.5, get a UK 9.

Are VEJA shoes vegan?

VEJA carry a Vegan range of shoes that are fully vegan. This includes the Nova Canvas However, not all their shoes are vegan and use leather and suede that has been sustainably sourced as much as possible.

Can you wash VEJA sneakers?

It is not advised that you put your VEJA shoes in the washing machine as this may disrupt the properties of the various materials used. Cleaning them is simple. Canvas shoes and CWL models can be brushed with cold water and Marseille soap. Leather shoes can be wiped with cold water and every now and then it’s a good idea to use a good leather cleaner to keep them looking their best. Suede is best maintained by dry brushing periodically.

How do you pronounce VEJA?

Although every vernacular will have their own way of saying it - the official correct pronunciation is the Brazilian Portuguese way which sounds something like ‘Vay-je’ - the second sound does not regularly occur in English but is very similar to the French ‘Je’ like in ‘Je vous drais’ - quite fitting really since the brand is French-owned.

What does VEJA mean?

VEJA takes its name from Brazilian Portuguese and literally means ‘Look’. VEJA themselves have interpreted the name to mean “Look through your sneakers, look what’s behind them” - we suppose referring to the processes taken by the brand to ensure as little environmental impact as possible.

What are VEJA shoes made of and how do you clean them?

VEJA shoes use a variety of materials in their shoes - all of which are sustainably sourced where possible.  Organic cotton - sourced from farms that are certified Organic and fair-trade, purchased directly by the brand ensuring farmers are paid fairly and with as little environmental impact as possible. Amazonian rubber - all of the soles used in VEJA shoes are made at least 20-30% of Amazonian rubber from over 450 acres of forest purchased by the brand itself from cooperatives formed by families of rubber tappers. VEJA buys the rubber for twice it’s market price in a bid to enhance the economic value of the forest as whole in order to protect it. Leather - single origin from Southern Brazil. Fairtrade manufacturers who practice sustainable methods of production to reduce environmental impact. They also use leather that is chrome-free in order to avoid potentially harmful toxins in chrome.

When was VEJA founded?

Where are VEJA shoes made?

All VEJA shoes are produced in the same place - in the state of Rio Grande do Sul in southern Brazil. Close to their cotton and rubber suppliers - the area has a long manufacturing history coupled with the high social impact that the factories have on the area.

Which VEJA trainers are best to buy?

There are many styles on offer from VEJA. Your decision for purchasing is a very personal one whether it just be a particular look you are after, the materials, vegan or not etc. Some of their most popular silhouettes are the V10, V12, Esplar and Campo.

Why are VEJA sneakers so popular?

VEJA are one of the first shoe brands to really push for a fully sustainable approach to production and to have it so ingrained within their brand values. This and their options for vegan shoes definitely have caught the attention of many, especially within the era where Climate Change is becoming a more critical issue every year. Another reason we think is that the standard quality finish of the shoes is very high, giving you a shoe that not only gives you a clear conscience but also looks and feels great.
