Sergio Tacchini is an Italian fashion designer and tennis player. Born on 2 September 1938 in Italy, he became a professional tennis player at the age of 17 when he entered the Tennis Club of Milan in 1955. He became Italian Champion in 1960, beating Nicola Pietrangeli to the top spot. From here, Tacchini competed in a range of competitions and titles, including the Davis Cup, Wimbledon and the US Open. 

In 1966, he established Sergio Tacchini with the goal to experiment with fabrics and colours for sportswear. His approach was to create elegant tennis wear that was bold and bright compared to the basic, colourless garments that dominated the tennis world.

In 2019, Sergio Tacchini announced that Stefano Maroni, Twin Lakes Capital LLC and B. Riley Principal Investments LLC would own and operate the global sportswear brand. Entrepreneur Stefano Maroni is now the business CEO and has led the brand into a relaunch.

  • 1981 - John McEnroe wears Sergio Tacchini during his infamous “You cannot be serious.” Wimbledon meltdown. 
  • 1984 - Sergio Tacchini proudly sponsored the Italian basketball player Dino Meneghin, regarded as one of Europe’s all-time greatest players. 
  •  1990’s - The ‘90s saw the rise of hip-hop, and with it, Sergio Tacchini was set for even greater heights. Rappers such as LL Cool J and The Notorious B.I.G were often seen head to toe in Sergio Tacchini, which helped boost the popularity and status of the brand to a new audience. 
  • 1990-1995 - Sergio Tacchini sponsors the Alpine Ski World Cup Circuit.
  • 1992 - Tacchini sponsors Italy’s basketball team.
  • 1997 - Martina Hingis set multiple “youngest-ever” achievements throughout the ‘90s, including the world’s youngest number 1. She was a frequent wearer of Sergio Tacchini, and in ‘97, she won Wimbledon, Australian Open and the US Open. 
  • 2016 - Sergio Tacchini celebrates its 50th anniversary.
