Veja Fitzroy – The Labels First Hiking Shoe
After a collaboration with Vibram and its first outdoor style, VEJA creates a shoe conceived for treks and hikes. Fitz Roy is a tribute to the mountain range of the same name – hikers from all over the world dream of climbing this emblematic Patagonian peak, located on the border of Argentina and Chile.
First named by the Tehuelche Indians as “the smoking mountain”, two French mountaineers succeeded in clim-bing it for the first time in 1952. The Fitz Roy is a technical hiking shoe with a solid and stable sole, thanks to multi-directional crampons and a Rock-Plate. Its Trek-Shell upper made of 100% recycled polyester is resistant and water-resistant: its tightly woven fabric is treated with a PFC-free durable water repellent.
The uppers showcase Veja’s all new technical Trek-Shell material, constructed with a tight weaving that is watertight & resistant. The upper fabrics are made from 100% recycled polyester & treated with a PFC-free durable water repellent to make it fully rainproof. In place of metal eyelets are elastic bands to hold the laces, ensuring they do not get hooked whilst on foot.
The soles are constructed with those rugged environments in mind – with the crampon fixtures pointing in two directions for excellent grip uphill & downhill. In addition the Rock-Plate is embedded between the outsole and midsole constructed from 53% sugar cane, offering protection on the trail from sharp stones.
The L-foam cushioning insert is constructed from 30% natural latax, offering a durable construction that brings comfort and protection against vibrations underfoot. The shoe sits on a curved rocker shape sole for stability & safety, with the rubber sole also featuring Horizontal and vertical flex grooves to facilitate the gait cycle (a healthy striding position).
All models in this collection are made in Brazil from 43% Bio-based & recycled materials, with the mid, out & insoles also featuring sustainable constructions such as sugar cane & Amazonian rubber. The Pebax® Rnew® back insert for support is also made from 62% ricinus oil, known to reduce swelling and pain caused by inflammation & reduce arthritis symptons when applied to skin – in this case when your feet sweat.
