Naked & Famous – Chinese New Year Water Rabbit Selvedge
In honour of Chinese New Year, Naked & Famous are back with another weird and wonderful pair of selvedge denim. Named the Water Rabbit selvedge, the jeans are constructed from a 13oz Japanese denim that pays tribute to the Year of the Rabbit in the Chinese Zodiac.
Each year, one of the 12 Zodiac animals is associated with one of the five elements: wood, fire, earth, water, and metal. Because there are 12 animals and 5 elements, each pairing are combined once every 60 years. This year, on January 22nd, marked the beginning of a Water Rabbit year.
The Water Rabbit Selvedge is made from a completely new fabric compared to the Chinese New Year models of previous years. Unlike its predecessors, this denim is less rigid, but has much more slub texture which will produce better high-contrast vertical fades as it breaks in and conforms to your body with wear. This fading is not only visually appealing, but it also adds to the character and personality of the jeans. As the denim breaks in and conforms to the wearer’s body, it becomes a one-of-a-kind piece that tells the story of its owner.
On top of its unique fading properties, the Chinese New Year – Water Rabbit selvedge denim also pays tribute to the Year of the Rabbit in the Chinese Zodiac. Said to promise good fortune and prosperity, the selvedge ID boats the traditional Chinese New Year colours of red and gold, and the vegetable-tanned leather patch features custom artwork of a rabbit bursting though water. Cut, sewn, and built in Canada, these jeans are finished with contrast stitching, red pocket bags, and silver metallic buttons and rivets.
