SUBU, Winter Sandals From Tokyo

Founded in 2016, SUBU strive to create a product that embraces you with the feeling of relaxation and freedom. SUBU reimagines the traditional Japanese shoe to create a sandal that is perfect for the winter. Perfect for those chilly winter days and nights, the slipper brings the warmth to those minus temperatures with its soft upper materials.

The Tokyo-based company was born out of a longstanding Japanese tradition of taking your shoes off when entering a home. In warmer months, this means sandals are not surprisingly a popular choice of footwear, making them as easy slip on alternative to trainers when heading out. But Tokyo gets cold in the winter, so the company developed its shoes to function as effortlessly as a sandal while providing the same comfort and warmth for those colder temperatures.

Their design & aesthetic is what you would expect from a footwear brand with Japanese DNA, with a more minimal feel than other brands’ styles & more technical design details. A few to mention are a grippy rubber sole, Teflon coating that repels water and dries quickly, down filling, and a fleece-lined interior that also manages to wick moisture away from sweaty feet, keeping your feet dry.

The silhouette of the labels winter sandals features a round toe box similar to the iconic Birkenstock Boston, however with a nylon quilted puffer jacket look. The brand describes the shoes as “designed to wrap your feet in a pocket of warmth” & the quilted lining certainly gives off that impression.

Look out for the range of winter sandals from SUBU, arriving for AW23 at Stuarts.
