Original Penguin x Stuarts
We are excited to announce 4 new colourways of the Original Penguin Earl Polo Shirt – Exclusive to Stuarts. The 4 iterations come in Kashmir Green, French Blue, Lavender Frost & Magenta Purple – all paying homage to the iconic mod style colourways of the ’50s.
Where was Original Penguin founded?
Original Penguin was founded in 1955 by Abbot Pederson in Minneapolis. Abbot Pederson’s inspiration to start Original Penguin came from when he purchased a drinking buddy, a stuffed penguin he named Pete while waiting for his delayed flight.
During the flight, Abbot accidentally knocked the head off Pete the penguin, and a stewardess on the flight wrapped a necktie around the penguin’s head and insisted that ‘He would look good on a shirt which led Pederson to embroider Pete the Penguin onto shirts.
Since 1955, Pete the Penguin has left his mark everywhere you go on shirts, bottoms, hoodies accessories, shoes and so much more. Over the years, Original Penguin has been adored by many, especially in golf and bowling and has earned over $50 million in revenue and is continuing to grow.
Where was Stuarts London founded?
Stuarts was founded in the centre of West London in 1967 by opening a store in Shepherds Bush. We are famously known for our contribution to the Mods and 80s Casuals subculture. Stuarts first started out as a tailor, making made-to-measure trousers and suits for working people in London and by the 70s and 80s, we developed into a football casual wear retailer.
The Original Penguin & Stuarts teams decided to use the beautiful Foxhills Country Club as the location for this shoot. We feel that the award-winning Surrey resort matches perfectly with the collection, with a heritage feel that pays recognition to the British heritage of Stuarts London & Original Penguin. Featuring the model of choice is Doug Allen, a renowned British actor best known for his role in iconic films such as The Firm, Gangstar No.1, The Guvnors & Band Of Brothers.
The iconic Earl polo has been worn by a league of legends from Frank Sinatra to Bing Corby and Clint Eastwood. Crafted from 100% organic cotton, these iterations of the iconic Original Penguin Earl Polo feature contrasting coloured tipping on the collar placket & sleeve cuffs and the neckline is finished in a 3-button closure & features a left chest pocket, presenting the Original Penguin logo.
