Veja x Ciele Athletics
VEJA and the Montreal-born brand Ciele Athletics imagined together the vegan Condor 2 Running Trainers, inspired by running at sunset. Ciele Athletics is an offbeat brand that is focused on making performance-based gear from recycled materials that is also vegan.

Veja
VEJA is a French footwear brand, founded by Sébastien Kopp and François-Ghislain Morillio and has been creating sneakers since 2005, by mixing social projects, economic justice, and ecological materials. VEJA uses Brazilian and Peruvian organic cotton, Amazonian rubber, and recycled plastic bottles or recycled polyester. These VEJA sneakers are constructed in high-standard factories in Brazil.
VEJA means “look” in Brazilian, looking beyond the sneakers, looking at how they’re made.

Since 2004, VEJA has set the price of their organic cotton in advance, in agreement with producer associations from Brazil and Peru. As the price is completely decorrelated from the market, this security is stronger since they know how much they are going to earn from the cotton before they plant the cotton.
VEJA sneakers cost 5 times more than big brand sneakers to make because VEJA uses fair trade, organic raw materials and they are more economically equitable for all parties involved in the production chain.

Every season VEJA chooses 5 models from their collection to check the chemical safety of the sneakers to ensure they have eliminated all hazardous chemicals from their production processes.
VEJA is the very first sneaker brand to use B-mesh material. B-mesh material is a fabric made entirely out of recycled polyester. B-mesh is light, breathable and waterproof and is made in Santo André, Brazil, from plastic bottles that are collected, sorted, then transformed into plastic flakes. These flakes are turned into polyester fibre through extrusion. On average, 3 plastic bottles are needed to make a pair of VEJA.

Ciele Athletics
Since its founding in 2014, Ciele has taken the classic running cap to new heights and expanded the range with beanies, visors, bucket hats and now t-shirts.
Based in Montreal, Canada, Mike Giles and Jeremy Bresnan started Ciele Athletics because they were looking for a project to use their backgrounds in design and technical sports apparel and branding which led to their idea of focusing on crafting performance based products that they would want to to wear whether they’re running or not.

Ciele lives by their saying “We aim to move people to movement, to connection and to community through considered equipment and exceptional experiences. We focus on performance and protection. Designed for athletes and adventurers of all kinds. Everybody run️.”

Ciele Athletics use repreve recycled polyester from unifi. Repreve is the world’s leading, branded recycled fibre, Repreve ensures their high-quality fibres are made from 100% recycled materials and are certifiably sustainable. From 2021 Ciele have increased their use of high quality fibres throughout their range, over 85% of their caps are now constructed from certified Repreve.

T-shirts are made from 40% certified recycled polyester & 60% certified organic cotton and their GTglass collaboration are assembled with TR90 polymer plastic for the frames and silicone nose pads and temple tips.
Ciele Athletics hope to evolve in the future and have a lot of new things coming up in the next 2-24 months and will continue to adjust their existing products as well as launching new ideas.
