AMI – Contemporary Lifestyle Clothing

AMI was founded in 2002 by Alexandre Mattiussi, however shortly closed and reopened in 2011. AMI provides a range of men’s and womenswear. The name AMI comes from the initials of Alexandre Mattiussi which also translates to ‘Friend’ in French. AMI’s brand focuses on collections designed for everyone that are laid back, good quality and casual style.

In 2017 AMI created their signature De Coeur logo which is featured across the range but is mostly recognisable on AMI’s oversized knits, the AMI De Coeur logo translates to ‘AMI of hearts’ which represents the brand as young, playful and carefree. AMI released their ‘Menswear for Women’ Collection in January 2018, showcasing how men’s looks can be adapted for the female clientele – a big move for the brand.

AMI History

Alexandre Mattiussi, born in Normandy in 1980 has always had a love for fashion and studied fashion and design in France and later specialised in menswear. Mattiussi has worked for many large brands such as Givenchy and Marc Jacobs which inspired him to form the brand AMI. In a recent interview Alexandre stated that when working at one of the big fashion houses he had stopped and thought he could never afford the sweater he had designed, and felt he had disconnected from the clothes and he wanted to create ‘real clothes, for real people’.

In 2013 Alexandre Mattiussi’ brand was the first brand to win the Prestigious Andam Award after only being established for two years. Today AMI is globally recognised, with stores now in New York, Paris, London, China, Shanghai and many more countries, he is taking the brand from strength to strength. Alexandre Mattiussi still lives by the motto ‘‘if you approach people with a smile and good energy people respond in a nice way.’

Puma x AMI

AMI has also had a wide range of collaborations, including Moncler, Eastpak, GAP, and their most recent collaboration with Puma. The AMI x Puma collection embraces positive energy around friendship. The range includes simplistic, comfortable essentials with a khaki trench coat, drawstring chords, relaxed sweatshirts and staple accessories such as bucket hats, caps and shoulder bags. The AMI x Puma collaboration features Romeo Beckham and his girlfriend Mia Regan as the face of the campaign.

AMI is also popular with a wide range of celebrities, such as Seth Rogen, Charlie Puth, and Nick Jonas. Post Malone has also been seen wearing the AMI Worker Denim Jacket from the summer 2018 collection and Camila Mendes who wore a custom made AMI gown to the 2022 Met Gala.
