G.H Bass & Co. – 1/400 Exclusive

Scout Boots Release 1/400

G.H. Bass & Co. is proud to present a range of footwear that combines its long-held history as a pioneer of work boots and hand sewn moccasins. The Scout Boot showcases the renowned German hand-sewn technique and attention to detail by integrating this alongside a good year welted shoe construction, marrying together the two traditional footwear processes. Only 400 of the Boots have been produced worldwide, making these one of the most exclusive footwear releases from the brand to date.

The traditional production methods have been developed and used since the brand was born in 1876 in order to keep the spirit of the pioneering original hunting boots alive.  The heritage boots are based on the iconic Quail Hunter boots, a profile first introduced by G.H. Bass & Co. in the early 1920s. These early iterations of the iconic heritage boots were popular amongst woodsmen, hunters and trails-men due to the extreme durability and waterproofing capability.

About G.H Bass

Established in 1876 by George Henry Bass, G.H. Bass & Co. began with a man on a simple mission “To make the best possible shoe for the purpose for which it was intended.” In 1936, the brand put a stylish spin on a Norwegian farm shoe designed for “loafing in the field,” and playfully dubbed them. Weejuns – introducing the world’s very first penny loafer. Worn by presidents and Hollywood legends alike, Weejuns have been a staple for some of the most influential subcultures in fashion history. 80 years later, Weejuns are still handmade ethically in our factory in El Salvador, using the same time-honoured techniques pioneered in 1936.

Scout Boots, Construction

Whilst the boots retain that same core durability which made the originators so popular, there are a few modern updates that have been added to the silhouette. The boots’ laces have had a revamp with new modern rounded waxy laces now in use, finished with brass ski-hooks and eyelets. These new waxed laces are longer lasting in the wet without fraying or breaking and stay tighter for a longer period of time.

Constructed in El Salvador with resilience and stability as first priority, the boots sit atop Goodyear-welted Vibram® rubber lug soles which consist of a foam and rubber blend to marry together the best traits of both materials – the softness and springiness of foam, and the durability and traction of rubber.

The tubular moccasin & hand-sewn construction are timeless markers of quality and heritage, with the same hand stitching techniques that were used over 100 year’s ago being used by today’s artisans. The uppers are constructed from heritage pull up leathers that are pliable, hardwearing and age beautifully with wear with the inside of the boot also boasting a quarter leather lining.
