Holubar, Straight From Colorado

It all started in Boulder, Colorado. From a basement in their home, the creators are husband and wife Roy and Alice Holubar. They started selling army surplus items to real outdoor enthusiasts in the area. Thanks to an order received from the Arctic Institute of North America, Alice and LeRoy Holubar buy a business license and start operations officially as Holubar Mountaineering, renting a workshop at 1215 Grandview Avenue, in Boulder. Fast forward to the 50s Holubar starts using nylon, at the time a revolutionary material, for its range of clothing and sleeping bags. With a pioneering approach, nylon is also used in combination with down filling. Holubar is the originator of the Mountain Parka, one of the most popular garments ever in North America, then used by many brands, big and small. By 58′ Holubar publishes a mail-order catalogue with 143 products, including down parkas, sleeping bags, tents, backpacks.

The catalogue is distributed in tens of thousands of copies in 12 States. Following the success of this, Holubar is appointed by the Alpine Rescue Team to supply them with technical equipment, jackets and sleeping bags. Their success continued to grow year on year, not only through the innovation of the items they were creating but the sheer quality and style was the driving force of popularity. Gradually Holubar becomes one of America’s leading manufacturers of outerwear and still to this day, remains an icon. Since the 80s, the brand has relaunched with a real focus on quality clothing and goes back to their roots.

The Holubar brand is set to drop online and instore at Stuarts this week. It’s great to see an outerwear brand that not only boats that real heritage that we love here at Stuarts, but also has that flare of quality in which you see in other alike brands such as Pendleton or Filson. We of course have the the classics from the brand and the iconic colourways, as well as some new season arrivals. Here is some of our arrivals on spotlight…
