Corduroy | Top Picks of The Season

Corduroy has become an essential fabric for any man’s wardrobe, particularly during the colder months. The fabric was originally created for the aristocracy, derived from the French for ‘cloth of the king’. But started to be worn by workers throughout the Industrial Revolution due to its tough nature but was soon donned by Ivy Leaguer, Beatniks and more throughout the mid-20th century. Perfectly casual whilst retaining an air of sophistication. This AW21, we have seen a number of new corduroy arrivals from Fred Perry, Lois Jeans, Norse Projects & More. Within this blog, we have picked our top five of these arrivals that will elevate your winter style this season.

Norse Projects

The Tyge Corduroy is a 3-pocket chore jacket cut from a wide 8 wale corduroy from Italian mill Duca Visconti. This jacket is finished with corozo rim buttons. Duca Visconti is an Italian mill which has been producing unique and exceptional fabrics of the highest quality since 1838. Inspired by the principle of constant improvement and recognized for their heritage and dedication to tradition.

Fred Perry

A zip-through jacket in a durable cotton/polyester blend, designed with roomy utility pockets and contrast corduroy panels. A firm favourite of 1970s Britain, corduroy was invented over a century earlier in sunny Manchester. Velvet’s tougher older brother, corduroy’s rich texture makes for the ultimate in smart/casual outerwear.

Carhartt WIP

The L/S Madison Cord Shirt is constructed from our heavyweight eight wale cotton corduroy, which has been garment washed. Features a button-down collar and finished with a subtle embroidered C Logo on the left chest.

Lois Jeans

An archival re-issue of a staple feature from the 80s this Ochre iteration of the Lois Jeans Tejana Thin Cord Jacket arrives boasting all of the hall marks of the much loved corduroy originals. Initially based upon a classic 70s Western trucker jacket the piece maintains it’s recognisable aesthetic that is defined by it’s “Thin Cord” outer shell, western style front pleats, buttoned tab adjusters at the hem and four pocket details – two buttoned flap pockets at the chest and two side pockets. With branded gold button details, suede signature branding to hem at the front left, and woven tab branding at the left hand chest pocket rounding off the garment it’s short length simply add to it’s appeal.

The Corduroy Gramicci Pants deliver all of the features that climbers are looking for combined with the needs of a modern, urban lifestyle. The gusseted crotch allows 180-degree splits, which means these pants are designed for movement and comfort. The webbing belt is the same colour as the fabric, creating an elegant look. A fan favourite for years, Gramicci’s staple pants are available in the stretch Corduroy material, making them an excellent choice for fall or winter. The stretch Corduroy material is made with a smooth cotton base that is woven with stretch yarn to create this look. The classic ribbed corduroy adds dimension and a unique look. This type of material is great for colder months and puts a new twist on the classic Gramicci pant look.
