Naked & Famous, Meteor Selvedge

A new season means a string of hotly anticipated denim releases from denim aficionado’s Naked And Famous Denim. The Canadian denim brand are unlike any other denim producer out there. Known for not only for their quality but also for showcasing the full range of creative possibilities in popular garments. Kicking things off this season we see the release of the Meteor Selvedge Denim. Now I know what you’re thinking, and no the jeans don’t contain real bits of meteor, however you can be sure that if they were able to make wearing meteor comfortable they would done. What they have done with these jeans though is very interesting, so let’s take a look then at this exciting new release from the brand.

The Fabric

The jeans are made from an 11oz  Japanese selvedge denim that feature mélange yarns woven into the fabric. The yarns are made by spinning various shades of grey and white together giving the weave an inconsistent tone. These yarns are used on the exterior warp and interior weft. This gives the jeans a really unique look that sticklers for details will really appreciate. The fabric has a wide range of grey and white shades within it, giving lots of depth and complexity to the fabric. It’s a really interesting finish because this look can only be achieved through this process and cannot be replicated through dyeing or other means.

The Leather Patch

An all black/charcoal leather patch is featured on the jeans giving contrast to the lighter overall shade of the denim. The patch is overlaid with slightly contrasting tonal stitching highlighting the cut and sewn nature of the jeans.

Buttons & Hardware

The hardware on the jeans comes in a silver metallic finish complimenting with the overall design of the jeans. Naked And Famous branding is featured on the buttons and “Je T’adore” inscribed on the metal rivets paying homage to the second native language of the brand’s home – Canada. On the rear pockets a choice detail of hidden rivets on the back pockets, a detail found often on vintage jeans.

Stitching and Selvedge ID

Tonal stitching is woven throughout the jeans giving a clean and minimal look while still highlighting the craftsmanship each pair. No red to be found in this denim’s selvedge ID though, instead we get a contrasting white with a clear weave pattern following the rest of the jeans.

How To Style

The grey tones in these jeans make them versatile for styling. Grey is a neutral colour so is easy to pair with just about any colour, but lends itself well to darker tones. This makes them perfect for the Autumn/Winter months where darker hues become more prominent in our everyday dressing. It’s also an easy colour to dress up or down, perhaps a little more than blue jeans. So whether you’re looking to dress up a little more this season, or if you want to switch it up from your regular Indigo jeans – these are a great option.

Naked & Famous at Stuarts

As one of the few UK stockists of Naked And Famous denim we’re really excited to finally get our hands on these and show them to you. They are available to buy right now in Naked And Famous’s most popular fit – the Weird Guy fit which features a medium rise and a taper down the leg to the hem.
