Orlebar Brown SS21 Guide

Orlebar Brown was born out of a very simple concept. That you shouldn’t have to get changed heading to the bar from the pool. While holidaying with friends one year founder Adam Brown noticed this annoyance and decided to rectify the situation and so the Orlebar Brown swim short was created – more of short that you swim in than what has become known as swim shorts with details from tailoring like side adjusters – inspired by swimwear worn by the jet-setting super-rich of the 1960s.

Today the brand is headed under the umbrella of Chanel and has expanded from swimming shorts to encompass a full range collection of beach and resort wear. We’ll take you through some of the main pieces of the SS21 collection and give you some advice on where to start with the brand, fitting and more.

Swim Shorts

Where it all started and still the brand’s most coveted item. Their signature swim short range comes in a wide range of cuts and a huge variety of colours. Their main 3 being Bulldog, Standard and Setter. Let’s take a look at some of the differences in style and cut in these swim shorts.

Bulldog

The first swim short Orlebar Brown ever put out and still our best-seller. Coming in at 6 inches (15cm) on the inseam, the Bulldog hits a nice sweet spot between having that vintage-inspired shorter cut designed to sit comfortably above the knee. Based on a traditional man’s tailored trouser, they feature side adjusters at the waist with metal buckles to give a premium finish and a more customised fit. Versatile and timeless the Bulldog is a great option for all your holidaying needs.

Bulldog Sport

For those who prefer a sportier feel to their swim short – the Bulldog Sport is what you’re looking for. Made from ultra-lightweight nylon with added stretch for maximum mobility these are the ideal shorts for those constantly on the move and need something light and comfortable while maintaining the refined look that only Orlebar Brown know-how. Same length and fit as the Bulldog.

Standard

Based on the Bulldog fit, the Standard Swim Short is Orlebar Brown’s take on the more modern looking swimshort with side-adjusters swapped out for a half elasticated waist and external drawstring for added fit adjustment. A small change pocket has also been added to the front with Orlebar Brown’s signature red on the drawstring to complete the look.

Setter

For thoe who like their shorts a little shorter – the Setter a pair for you. Same classic design of the Bulldog but this time with a 4.5 inch (11cm) inseam. Available in loads of different colours so you’re not short of options.

Terry Towelling

In keeping with the chill, poolside vibe one of Orlebar Browns fabrics of choice this season is definitely Terry Towelling. As the name suggests, the fabric is made in a similar weave to towelling fabric that was used frequently in vintage resort wear but is rarely found today. The fabric is great because gives a casual look to dressier pieces like slim cut polo shirts and has a unique look not found with other fabrics.

It’s comfortable and functional – its absorbent design makes for a stylish and easy way to dry yourself straight out of the pool or from the beach and will easily take you to the bar or restaurant and beyond.

Italian Silk Knit Polo

This polo is so special that we feel it deserves its own category. Made in Italy in a fine weave knit of the finest silk and cotton delivery a truly luxurious feel that would pair perfectly with a pair of Orlebar Brown swim shorts. A truly unique polo that features a 1960s inspired print and comes in a flattering fit ready for the Riviera.
