Deep Heel Cup

The way in which Birkenstock constructs it’s sandals is unique and in turn offers a true engineered fit with comfort like no other. The deep molding of the heel area holds the foot tissue and supports the heel bone firmly yet comfortably in its natural stance. This gives the foot a strong structure, just as much as wearing a fully closed shoe. The heel mould is also constructed to activate the calf muscles, stabilises the back of the foot offering stability, comfort and strength.

Longitudinal Arch Supports

The arch supports go alongside the sides of the sandal surround the tarsal bones inside and out. “This gives the foot the stability it needs when it takes a step. Along with a transverse arch support that runs through the middle of the footbed, it helps stabilizes the metatarsal bone. In this way, the transverse arch support helps ensure that the foot has a naturally straight and solid stance.”

Toe Grip & Edge

Another aspect of the sandal that also continues to help offer comfort and stability is the toe grip and recognisable edging. The raised indentations at the front of the sandal give a strong toe grip but it also allows them to spread naturally when walking or standing. The indentations also support the natural rolling of your toes. “The edge also gives added structure. The footbed is drawn up especially high at the front.
