SS21 Puma x Maison Kitsune
2021 has been an exciting year so far for collaborations between both large and smaller brands. Now with the official announcement of Puma x Maison Kitsune, two Stuarts London favourites, we’re very excited to give a sneak peek of this exclusive collaboration.
The two brands have put together an official capsule collection that explores modernity and heritage, mixing elements of Japanese street-style, Parisian chic, and Puma’s classic sportswear. Maison Kitsune are known for their dedication to applying premium materials to minimalist designs, always with a fun and unmistakably Parisian influence. This, combined with Puma’s legendary technical know-how and ability to produce timeless silhouettes makes for a very interesting collection.
The idea of mixing modernity with heritage is seen throughout the collection. Technical track pants are contrasted with sleek, minimally styled sweatshirts sporting Maison Kitsunes playful fox mascot for a look that is forward-thinking and fresh.
Functional pieces like cargo shorts and military jackets are a key component within the collection, updated with technically capable materials often found in Puma’s top sportswear. These mix with wide-legged trousers with pleats, drawing on traditional French style that is softened by the modern sportswear influence.
Key accessories like bucket hats and side bags feature the collaborations logo design that sees PUMA’s iconic logo overlayed with Maison Kitsune’s playful fox motif. The bags are slightly oversized and look great when combined with technical outerwear within the collection like lightweight hooded jackets and long military coats.
A PUMA collection would not be complete without a pair of trainers, and our favourite of the lot are the a reinterpretation of PUMA’s famous Ralph Sampson trainers. For this collab a grippy, heavily textured outsole has been added for a contemporary link but which also integrates PUMA’s ‘Contact’ sole, one of their most recognisable soles that made so many favourite pairs back in the day.
Rubber is a recurring material used throughout the collection and it looks great on this shoe as rubber side panels subtly break up the shoe giving it a variance of texture and a very modern look. Finished with the PUMA x Maison Kitsune branding on the tongue and Maison Kitsune fox motif on the heel.
