Top Statement Shirts For The Summer | SS20 Edit
Although Summer has not started out exactly how we had all hoped, the sun is still shining and things are starting to look hopeful once again. A key statement Summer staple has always been the classic Hawaiian shirt, however this season we have seen some exceptional new designs that are trailblazers for new seasons to come. In this edit, we are bringing you the top statement shirts as well as some classic Hawaiian shirts to see you through the season and holidays to come.
So what makes a Hawaiian shirt such a staple item? Sources claim that it can be traced back to the roaring 20s, when Honolulu-based dry goods store “Musa-Shiya the Shirtmaker” started making colourful shirts from Japanese prints. From the 30’s Chinese merchants took the trend by storm by making this trend available to the mass. By the 30’s, it adopted the name Aloha Shirt and production began in Hawaii. After world war II, service men returned home with these shirts which went on to popularise this bold prints and loose fitting silhouettes. By 62’, Aloha fridays were introduced where businesses would allow their teams to dress more casual – this trend started by a simple marketing campaign, is said to have spread to East California and still exists today. So it is easy to say, these shirts present a timeless feel that encompasses heritage with bold cutting edge prints and fabrics.
The shirts also give comfort in the heat with their loose fitting DNA and open colour. A statement shirt is also a great piece to add some colour and playful feel to your Summer outfit.
