Fred Perry x G.H. Bass & CO.

After conquering the tennis courts Fred Perry went on to become a champion of British subculture. The youth of the 50s and 60s swiftly adopted the laurel wreath as a symbol of the youth culture deeply linked to music, style, and a distinctively British attitude. The brand was present throughout some of the biggest changes in the cultural landscape of the country; the impact of which can still be seen and felt today.

Across the pond, GH Bass & Co were making their own waves with the first and most iconic penny loafer – the ‘Bass Weejun’. A favourite of Elvis, James Dean, Paul Newman and even President John F Kennedy, it marked a move towards a more casual style of dressing and came to define one of the most significant style periods of American history; ‘Ivy’ of which the Bass Weejun was an integral part of the uniform. The style is synonymous with the ‘All American’ look and went on to become one of the most popular shoes in American history.

Black tassel loafers worn with tartan socks and cropped trousers.

Both brands left their impact on the cultural landscape, one in America and the other Britain. Today people all over the world are able enjoy both brands’ heritage and iconic style.

To celebrate this, the Fred Perry and GH Bass & Co have decided to team up on a very special pair of loafers. Coming in three available colour ways – Bottle Green, Black and Oxblood – the loafers maintain the form of a classic Bass Weejun coming in two available styles the ‘Tassel Loafer’ and the ‘Penny Loafer’.

Essentials: Style And Comfort

Fred Perry’s influence can be seen in the thick commando sole, giving the loafers a discerningly modern look and the utilitarian edge that the brand is known for. The all leather insoles of the Bass Weejuns loved for their comfort and durability has been given a punk edge with the Fred Perry tartan from their iconic Harrington jacket.

What Makes The Fred Perry x G.H. Bass & CO Special?

The shoes are crafted from a hand-sewn moccasin construction with the added detail of a subtle contrasting colour line which gives a nod to the ‘tipping’ detail seen on Fred Perry’s iconic M46 and M3600 polo shirts. Finished with the a subtle heel tab adorning the Fred Perry laurel on the heel of the shoe which really brings the whole thing together nicely.

Here at Stuarts London both Fred Perry and GH Bass & CO. have been longstanding features on our shelves and online so and we hope you are just as excited as we are for this collab.
