The Attraction of the Paul Smith Gerald Boot

Paul Smith is a label that has taken many plaudits over the years. Renowned for producing collections of menswear that are on trend season after season, London’s favourite designer has also gained a huge reputation for crafting some of the finest footwear in the industry. One of the models in question is the Chelsea boot, amongst other staples such as Chukka Boots and trainers, that rightly take a place within our wardrobes season after season. One of the many questions we are posed with is  “What is the different about the Gerald boot compared to Paul Smith’s other Chelsea Boots?”  Drawing fine comparisons to the original style that saw the Chelsea Boot rise to prominence on the King’s Road in the 60’s and 70’s we break down the Gerald to highlight its differences.

The Gerald Chelsea Boot

One of the newest models to be released by the label, the Gerald boot offers many similarities to other Chelsea Boots designed by Paul Smith. Like the popular Falconer model, also stocked at Stuarts London, it is also constructed from smooth suede whilst featuring tonal elasticated side gores and grosgrain heel pulls.

Drawing comparisons with the falconer there are, however, some noticeable differences. Consisting of a higher ankle than other Paul Smith Chelsea Boots stocked. The Gerald also provides more function and durability than the other Paul Smith models available. When inspecting its 100% leather sole unit the thicker construction is apparent, whilst the footbed of the shoe is slightly cushioned giving it greater comfort.

When you turn the Gerald on its side the other differential, its Gentlemen’s corner, will become visible. Whilst not needed in today’s shoe construction, the historical functionality was to help prevent your heel from getting caught on your trouser cuffs, it still symbolises the sign of a well made shoe.

With the first arrivals of the Paul Smith SS17 Shoe collection now available online,  you can purchase the Gerald now at Stuarts London. Working well with both tailored and casual trousers it is featured in a wide range of suede colours from the more traditional Snuff to the cool aesthetic of Oceano.
